Vinho Verde

Tangy, Portuguese white blend with citrus and tropical fruit in a subtle natural fizz.

Vinho Verde is a cool, maritime region in northwest Portugal that’s the home of name-sake light fresh white wines that explode with tart lemon, lime, grapefruit, lemonade, honeydew melon, and a brush of white florals. Super tart and refreshing with a gentle touch of natural fizz, Vinho Verde is enjoyable in a glass on its own or paired with salads, fried fish, and seafood.

Much Vinho Verde is a blend of indigenous Portuguese grapes that are crafted into popular tart, low-alcohol, light wines bursting with citrus and green fruit. Another style, called Vinho Verde Alvarinho made entirely from the Alvarinho grape hails from the Monção and Melgaço sub-region close to the Spanish border. A departure from classic Vinho Verde, this wine has riper, richer stone and tropical fruit tones plus higher than average alcohol levels and it is sometimes oak aged for more texture.

Fun Fact: The Alvarinho grape is the same as the Albariño variety found just across the Spanish border which makes a similar style of fresh white wine.
